Wassily Kandinsky’s To Nina for Christmas (1926) captures the artist at the height of his mature abstract language—an intimate dedication to his wife, Nina Kandinsky, expressed through a world of pure form and color. Painted during his Bauhaus years, when he was refining the grammar of points, lines, and planes, the work channels his lifelong pursuit of “visual music,” where shape and hue resonate like notes and chords. The title hints at a tender occasion, yet the composition itself speaks to a broader ambition: to achieve inner harmony without relying on recognizable imagery.

This listing offers a museum-quality fine art print of To Nina for Christmas, produced by The Unique Maps Co. on your choice of acid-free archival paper or artist’s cotton canvas. Each piece is giclée printed for superb color fidelity—true to the deep, velvety black field and embers of orange and red, set off by crisp accents that suggest yellow and green. Available in a range of sizes, with optional framing and matting, plus personalization choices (such as a commemorative caption or dedication). Custom sizing and display guidance are also available to ensure a perfect fit for your space.

Born in Russia in 1866, Kandinsky became a central figure in modern art and a pioneer of nonrepresentational painting. By the mid-1920s he was teaching at the Bauhaus in Germany and codifying his ideas about form and perception. In 1926 he published “Point and Line to Plane,” a treatise that formalized how geometry and rhythm could structure a painting—principles that pulse throughout this work.

To Nina for Christmas embodies the exploratory spirit of the 1920s European avant‑garde while remaining deeply personal. The dedication implies a cherished gift; the composition, however, remains universal—seeking emotional clarity through elegant order. Kandinsky’s pursuit of spiritual resonance through abstract means finds a compact, luminous expression here, making the work as conceptually rich as it is visually striking.

Color and structure are the stars. A predominantly black ground intensifies glowing passages of orange and red, with lively interjections that read as yellow-green. Circular and angular forms—triangles, discs, slender bars, and small cross-like accents—play off one another, creating a rhythmic counterpoint of sharp angles and smooth curves. The effect is both floating and precise, like constellations carefully composed on an infinite field. It’s a compelling statement piece for contemporary interiors: the saturated darks bring drama, while the warm oranges add lift and warmth, equally at home in minimalist, mid-century, or eclectic spaces.

A thoughtful gift for art lovers and design aficionados, this print is perfect for Christmas (how fitting), birthdays, housewarmings, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, or to celebrate anyone who treasures the Bauhaus, modern abstraction, or the timeless idea of giving art from the heart.
